The sun has risen on the #LongestDay
Take the time to support Dublin Simon Community on Friday 21st June
Dublin Simon Community’s annual Longest Day campaign takes place today (21 June) and the homeless and housing charity are calling on the public to take the time to support people experiencing homelessness.
The #LongestDay campaign is a day of action. Many supporters of Dublin Simon Community are taking the time to organise sponsored walks/ runs, bake sales and coffee mornings, to name a few, in aid of raising vital funds for their housing, emergency, health and support services.
People can still organise events on the day or Dublin Simon Community are asking the public to think of them the next time they’re planning a fundraising event or taking part in a sponsored event. Dublin Simon Community would also encourage the public to donate whatever they can on the day and help support the Longest Day campaign.
Speaking about the importance of donating on the Longest Day, Community & Events Manager, James Phelan said “When you’re experiencing homelessness, every day can feel like the longest day. During our Longest Day campaign, we’re trying to highlight the isolation and vulnerability that those experiencing homelessness go through every day of the year. Now in our 50th year, Dublin Simon Community continue to be there for people who need us the most. I’d ask on the public to please support the campaign in any way they can, be it by hosting an event, taking part in a sponsored run or by donating through our website www.dusbimon.ie. Your support will allow us to continue to rebuild lives.”
Throughout the Longest Day, Dublin Simon Community will share stories behind the statistics. Each personal experience will be shared with the hashtag #LongestDay.
“I sat here yesterday and I cried my eyes out. People were going by, just looking at you and putting you down. If you have your own home, you could wake up in the morning and something could happen and you could lose everything. And it could be you sitting here one day. ”
