Part-time Volunteers

Part-time volunteers play a large part in assisting Dublin Simon Community management, staff and residents in running of the services.

Most part-time volunteers work directly with Dublin Simon Community Service Users to develop and enhance life skills, such as budgeting, shopping, basic cooking, basic computer skills and literacy skills.

Part-time volunteers work in roles such as, fundraising, charity shop assistants, 'Soup Runners', Social Club, Housing Services, Treatment Services and DCTS.

All volunteers are required to complete training with Dublin Simon before they actively begin volunteering.

Currently throughout our services we have over 200 part-time volunteers.

Part-time volunteers must be 18+ and give 3 - 7 hours one evening a week for a minimum commitment of 1 year. The roles include:

  • Social Club Volunteers - running the social club evenings which are integral to the Dublin Simon Continuum of Care.
  • Detox Volunteers - assisting in the day to day running of the treatment services.
  • Shelter Volunteers - befriending the service users and organising activities.
  • Nightly Soup Run - Our Soup Run volunteers have been a familiar presence on the streets of Dublin for nearly 40 years. Volunteers use the soup as a 'tool of engagement' to encourage service users to make contact with the trained staff of the Rough Sleeper Team.
  • Dublin City Tenancy Sustainment - this team is working to break the cycle that leads to people sleeping rough by preventing them from becoming homeless in the first place.
  • Fundraising - church gate collections, Fun Run, carol singing, helping in the shop etc. If you don't have too much time but would like to get involved the fundraising team are always looking for volunteers to help out with their activities. This might consist of shaking buckets, church gate collections or selling tickets, anything really, depending on what's on the agenda. If you'd like to volunteer for the fundraising department call 6715551 or email fundraisingadmin@dubsimon.ie

All applications go through the Dublin Simon Community recruitment procedure and are subject to Garda vetting and reference checking.

We recruit quarterly for part-time volunteers.
