Dublin Simon Community

Learning and Development

Learning and Development spans the spectrum of our services under the continuum of care aiming to address the educational, training, employment, vocational and developmental needs of our service users.

We do this through:

  • Providing life-skills which are incorporated into service users’/ residents’ care plans
  • Meaningful occupation/activities e.g. Literacy, Film-Making course, Art & Crafts, Book Club, etc.
  • Social activities and events and the Social Club
  • The Service User Newsletter, the Simon SUN
  • Promoting events throughout the year supporting education, creativity, employment and social engagement e.g. Adult Learners Festival, the Bealtaine Festival, FÁS Opportunities, DCC Social Inclusion Week, etc.
  • Providing Information, guidance and support to access education, training, employment and voluntary options
  • Engaging service users/ residents into external mainstream and community agencies, including the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA), Dublin Adult learning Centre (DALC), National Learning Network (NLN), CDVEC and the Foundations Programme, Focus Ireland’s Educational Programme, Business in the Community (BITC), FÁS etc.
