Thousands run in solidarity for homelessness

Runners, families, schools and supporters attend the Simon Community Fun Run and Family Festival

Over three thousand people attended today’s Simon Fun Run and Family Festival (3rd October) to support vital homeless and housing services. The longest running charity event in the Phoenix Park, this year Dublin Simon Community celebrated the 32nd year of its ‘Silly Run for a Serious Cause’.

This year the 5 mile run also featured The Simon Village hosting a number of Family Fun activities, such as Hamleys’ kids events, Deutsche Bank Kids Races and Novelty Races. The Simon Tasting Tent featured some of Dublin’s top restaurants such as Dax Restaurant and Live Music from Ulster Bank and the fantastic Lucan Gospel Choir entertained attended.

Speaking at the event, Sam McGuinness of the Dublin Simon Community said; “The Simon Fun Run is a huge success each year and this is down to the continued generosity and support of thousands of participants, donors and volunteers.

“The Simon Fun Run is a critical fundraising event and a fantastic opportunity to bring us together to support people who are homeless or at risk. By joining us today, you have made a vital difference to the people, families and children that rely on our services. Your support and belief helps them to get back on their feet, and take the first steps along the road out of homelessness towards a brighter future.”
