Leave something behind for those society has left behind

By thinking of Dublin Simon Community in your will, you will make a vital difference to the thousands of vulnerable people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow.

Bequests left to Dublin Simon Community have been enormously beneficial to providing all our services from housing to outreach, to our treatment services and make a lasting personal difference to people who are homeless. With your support we will strive to expand and develop our services to meet the increased demand in these, the toughest of times. We are ever mindful that homelessness can happen to any one of us and are responding to each person’s need to find a safe place to live.

Our aim at Simon is to give people back their sense of worth, belonging and self belief. For people like John, a client of Simon services, this was a crucial step in looking to a brighter future. “Simon helped me find myself again. It was amazing to be given the opportunity and support to get back to who I was and what I loved.” By providing services that address the causes of homelessness, we empower people to develop the skills and capabilities to rebuild their lives and prevent homelessness from happening. We are working relentlessly to eliminate long-term homelessness and the need to sleep rough. This goal cannot be achieved without the support of people like you.

Here are some tips to make a Will

  • Find a solicitor – if you don’t already use a solicitor, ask friends and family for a referral or consult your local listings.
  • Make a list of all your assets and their approximate value i.e. property, car, savings, insurance policies etc.
  • Make a list of all your liabilities i.e. mortgage, other loans, overdraft, credit cards etc.
  • Consider who you would like to look after your financial affairs (your executors) and agree this with the appointed person(s).
  • Consider how you would like your assets divided, bearing in mind your obligations to people who are close to you.
  • Visit your solicitor to discuss your plans and to allow him/her to prepare your will. S/he should advise you in terms of the tax implications of leaving legacies to family, friends or charities.

How to leave a Bequest to Dublin Simon Community

Please contact Justyna Drogomirecka in confidence on (01) 671 5551 or email: JustynaDrogomirecka@dubsimon.ie to discuss the necessary steps of what needs to be done to include us in your wishes.

If haven’t made your Will yet

You have a number of choices of bequest you may like to make:

  • Leaving Dublin Simon Community the residue of your estate. A share of the rest of your assets that you have not already given away.
  • Leaving Dublin Simon Community a percentage of your estate.
  • Leaving Dublin Simon Community a gift of a specific amount of money.
  • Leaving Dublin Simon Community a specific item.

If you already have a Will

You can easily update it with a codicil with your solicitor – an additional clause that includes your bequest, and complies with all the requirements of a valid will. A codicil needs to be witnessed and signed in the same way as the original will, and should be kept in the same place as the original will.
