Hike for Dublin's Homeless

Since 2000 we have taken over 700 hikers to exotic locations worldwide and to the four corners of Ireland raising nearly €3 million in the process. Participants are of all ages, all levels of fitness, and come from all walks of life. Our hikes create a unique team spirit in overcoming the challenge and working together to fight homelessness.

Taking part in a Hike for the Homeless will be a life changing experience for you and for the people who are homeless who benefit from your fundraising and hiking efforts. Funds raised from our hikes go directly into the services and facilities provided by the Dublin Simon Community.

Dublin Simon Community hikes operate a responsible tourist policy our mantra being; “Take only photographs leave only footprints”.

Trek the High Atlas Mountains, Morocco 2010
May 15th - 23rd

Hike for Charity to Morocco in 2010Climb North Africa’s highest peak Jbel Toubkal and two other peaks in excess of 4,000 metres in a week of exhilarating treks in the High Atlas Mountains. A trek through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains is not just one of the most scenic hikes in the world-it's also an immersion into the culture of the Berber people, Morocco's original inhabitants. You will stay in refuges and Berber villages throughout the hike.

Achieving this challenge is possible – all you have to do is be willing to go for it. You don’t need to be super fit or have an abundance of experience, but we would recommend some training before you set off. People who have hiked for Dublin Simon have said it was the best experience of their whole life (see below).

Plus only one week holiday is required as trip commences on Saturday 15th May and finishes on Sunday 23rd 2010.

Organise your own hike

If you are in a walking club or are a keen hill walker, why not organize your own hike. In 2007 a group of hikers organized the Seven Peaks Challenge. Summating seven peaks in Ireland and the UK, the hikers raised in excess of €20,000 for Dublin Simon. This grueling challenge took in Lugnaguilla, Carrintouhill, Mweerlea, Slieve Donard, Ben Nevis, Scaffel Pike and Snowdon over an eight day period.

Fundraising

Be proud of what you are doing. Taking on a one of these hikes is no mean feat, so let others know about what you are up to! Being upbeat and enthusiastic about your fundraising will lead to success. If at first (with one idea) you do not succeed, try and try again! Others will want to support you if your events sound fun.

Have the nerve to ask others to help you. You will be surprised with the results. Remember that this is a team challenge. Once you are signed up we will give you the names of the other participants to train with and share fundraising ideas. We are just a phone call away and are here to help and support you every step of the way on the adventure of a life time.

It will be worth it when your efforts have made a real difference to Dublin’s homeless. Over 300 people sleep rough in Dublin every night of the year. Taking on a challenge will not only be a memorable and exciting experience it will make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable that live on our streets.

What Simon Hikers Said

"You will be very glad you did it and your life will be richer for having done it. In one word unforgettable!" (Sorcha O'Horain, Safari Desert Hiker)

"Hiking and camping in the Sahara was a tremendous experience - and though it could only bring home to us some of the problems faced by homeless people, it gave us great satisfaction to know that the funds raised would help people who have no place to call home 365 days a year." (Harry Lorton, C.E. Permanent TSB, Sahara Hiker)

"It is great fundraising for Dublin Simon, people are so interested and willing to help" (Pepe Martinez, Sahara, Namibia and China)

"Excellent - All Simon staff were brilliant and never stopped motivating us. The actual places were amazing and other-worldy and we were looked after magnificently." -
(Adam Hyland, China)
