Residential Alcohol Detoxification/Detox Programme Dublin

Residential Alcohol Detoxification Service

Alcohol Detox Service

Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive, medically assisted alcohol Detoxification Service to allow individuals to address their alcohol addiction. This is a short term treatment intervention which enables clients to begin the process of recovery from alcohol misuse.

The Detox unit has a capacity of 11 beds. It is a low threshold service targeted specifically at people who are homeless. The programme is of three weeks duration and the detoxification process is supervised by visiting GP’s. There is a qualified nurse on duty 24 hours a day. All nursing staff are experts at managing withdrawal from alcohol. In addition the unit is staffed by a nurse manager, a project worker and three full time volunteers. We understand that coming in for a detox can be a very stressful event for clients and we would like to reassure them that they will be kept safe and comfortable during the process.

Clients attend groups on a daily basis to discuss issues such as relapse prevention and how to manage cravings. The groups are facilitated by a project worker, who also works with clients on an individual basis to address their specific support needs.
