Transitional Housing

Dublin Simon Short-term Housing provides self-contained accommodation on a 6-month basis. This is an opportunity for people who are motivated and stable, or in the process of stabilising to:

  • work towards independent living with supports provided
  •  address issues related to their homelessness
  • develop/re-establish independent living skills and
  • prepare them for move-on to private rented accommodation, local authority or other long-term secure, appropriate accommodation.

Essentially, Dorset Street acts as an important stepping-stone to assist people to move out of homelessness and into independent living. Our project has 17 apartments, one of which caters for couples.

Our staff provide key worker support for residents through:

  • Working in partnership with residents to agree care plans which address their needs and goals.
  • Supporting residents to learn independent living skills through on hand assistance and a Settlement Skills course.
  • Fostering resident development through participation in residents’ meetings and meaningful activities.
  • Providing residents with suitable settlement options to assist them in sourcing independent accommodation

Staff, who are on site five days a week, have established links with local authorities, communities, social housing providers and the private sector.
