Dublin Simon Community Rehab

Residential Alcohol Rehabilitation Service

Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive, medically assisted rehabilitation programme to allow people to address their addictions, primarily alcohol, to help them move out of homelessness

We Do This By:

  • Providing a residential low threshold rehabilitation support programme.
  • Using a holistic (whole person) approach to identify issues contributing to addiction and homelessness.
  • Using a holistic approach to address the individual’s needs around addiction and homelessness.
  • Contributing to the education and empowerment of individuals around their addictions.
  • Supporting individuals to establish support networks in preparation for moving out of homelessness
  • Helping people access ongoing mainstream support services and re-integrate into society.

The Programme

Dublin Simon Community’s rehab service has capacity for 20 people. It is an abstinence based, structured programme which uses a holistic approach, providing a safe and supportive low threshold residential environment. The unit is staffed 24 hours a day by workers, who are supported by the service manager, three full-time volunteers and four part-time volunteers. People using the service attend groups on a daily basis and discuss  topics such as relapse prevention and life skills, where people develop the skills and confidence to start creating a positive lifestyle that does not include alcohol and to live independently. They also engage in alternative therapies such as yoga and acupuncture.

Referrals are received from Simon services both in Dublin and nationally, homeless agencies, treatment addiction centres, probation services and self referral. On completion of the Rehab programme, a substantial number of people using the service transfer to the Aftercare Service.
