High Support Housing
Existing Services:
North Circular Road
Our North Circular Road high support housing service provides accommodation for single people who are homeless with mental health, addiction or personal care needs. Residents are mostly people who have been homeless for long periods of time and who do not have the capacity to live independently. Every resident has their own room and there are also large communal rooms and gardens. The project operates a case management system where staff provide support to residents through individualised support plans. Residents are also taught life skills to increase their ability to maintain independent or semi-independent living.
Sean MacDermott Street
Our Sean MacDermott Street high support housing provides long-term accommodation to men and women who are long-term homeless, and who through assessment, have been deemed ‘unable to live independently’.
Sean MacDermott has 24-hour staff on-site seven days a week and has 21 residents whose average average age is 49. Residents have high mental health, physical health, drug and/or alcohol support needs. The service focuses on ending the cycle of homelessness and residents have 24-hour access to the house.
For many it can be the first place they have had to call home after years spent sleeping rough or moving from hostel to hostel. By providing a stable environment many residents naturally reduce their alcohol and drug use and, by eating regular meals and getting regular sleep, many residents experience an improvement in their physical and mental health. Staff work closely with GPs, PHNs, occupational therapists and many more community professionals to improve the quality of life for residents.

Support Services
Our high-support houses are run by full-time staff, full and part time volunteers and community employment workers who are motivated and committed to providing a supportive environment for residents which helps them live as independently as possible. Staff and volunteers also arrange a regular programme of social activities to promote interpersonal skills.
Continuum of Care
Where the needs of residents change, the staff team work to refer the resident to more appropriate accommodation. When a resident has successfully overcome issues which prevented them accessing mainstream housing, they may then be referred to medium support voluntary housing – such as Dublin Simon’s Canal Road project, private rented or local authority accommodation (with support if appropriate). When care needs increase a resident may be referred to higher support housing, relevant mental health services or to a nursing home.

Riversdale Residential Care Home
Riversdale Residential Care Home will provide high support housing for men and women whose health and other needs are such that they are unable to live independently. It will be staffed on a 24 hour basis by experienced care workers and trained volunteers. Individualised care plans will be developed using the Holistic Needs Assessment and the Outcome Star approach in order to build skills, increase independence and enhance a person’s quality of life. Should the needs of residents change, our staff team will work to refer the resident to more appropriate accommodation. When a resident has successfully overcome issues which prevented them accessing mainstream housing, they will be referred to housing such as voluntary, private rented or local authority accommodation.
