Emergency Shelter

Our emergency shelter on Harcourt Street is a low threshold supported temporary accommodation which provides accommodation for 30 single men, single women and couples who are homeless. The service is open 24/7. People who are homeless can be referred for a night or can stay for up to six months when they are referred to a long-term bed. Residents are provided with breakfast, an afternoon meal and snacks are available throughout the day.

There are two TV rooms, one where alcohol can be consumed. Every resident is assigned a key worker who, together with the resident, will devise individualised care plans which cover anything that might impede a move into appropriate long-term accommodation. The areas addressed in the care plans include physical health, mental health, addiction issues, social welfare entitlements, life-skills, training and employment.

Key Working & Care Planning

Every resident is assigned a member of staff who will continue to work with them throughout their stay. Staff and residents together devise individualised Care Plans which cover anything that might impede a move into appropriate long-term accommodation: from health, addiction issues and social welfare entitlements to basic life-skills, training and employment.

Residents, while encouraged to view the service as a place of change, enabling them to develop the skills to exit homelessness, are encouraged to take an active role in the service through residents’ meetings, Dublin Simon Speak Outs and  participation initiatives.
