Important Route update

Message from the Fun Run team:

Due to Major Roadworks in the Phoenix Park the Dublin Simon Annual Fun Run route has changed. The route will now be 5km and not 5 miles. It will be starting from Saint Mary’s Road inside the Chapelizod Gates. Please read all enclosed literature for route and access changes. This is beyond our control due to the roadworks but we are delighted the race can still go ahead and the new route is lovely!

Race Location:

Saint Mary’s Road. Entrance by foot through the Chapelizod Gate. Registration & baggage at football & hurling grounds by Acres Road.

Public Transport:

We encourage participants to take public transport to the event.
Bus Routes to the Phoenix Park, Chapelizod Gate are - 25, 26, 66, 66A, 66B, 67

Parking:

As a consequence of the major road works to the Main avenue (Chesterfield) in the Phoenix Park [Mountjoy Cross-Goffs intersection on Chesterfield Avenue] we are not allowed parking in the Phoenix Park this year. Parking is available on the Chapelizod Road to Conyngham Road stretch outside the Park. The Fun Run itself starts at St Mary’s Hospital just inside the Chapelizod Gate and finishes in close proximity of the start. By parking outside the Chapelizod Gate you have a very short walk to the start/finish area which contains the Registration tent for any late entries. It is advisable to for everyone to register online in order to avoid delays on the day.

Baggage:

There will be a baggage tent on the day. If you wish to avail of this facility, please ensure that you arrive at it in plenty of time as it will get very busy before the start of the race.

Punctuality:

Punctuality is vital if the Fun Run is to be a success. The Fun Run is a professionally organised main road race and will start at 10.30 a.m. sharp! The U7s will start at 9.30am. and the 8-12 year old race will start at 9.45am sharp!

Some Fun Bits:

  • 98fm along with Metro Herald are our media sponsors. Both 98fm and Metro Herald will be there on the day providing music and taking photos.
  • Goodie bag, medal and t-shirt for all.
  • Facepainting
  • Prizes for front runners and random spot prizes on the day.
  • We’ll have a warm up and cool down provided by a fitness company called keepfit.ie from 10am at the race start.
  • Kids races: The under 7’s 200 metre dash starts at 9.30am and the Running Funny category, 800 metre for 8 – 12 year olds, will start at 9.45am.
  • All participants for the main race which starts at 10.30am receive a race number with a bar coded timing chip enclosed. There are also 4 safety pins included to attach your race number to your t-shirt.

We look forward to seeing you at the Fun Run and appreciate your cooperation with the arrangements for this year.
